McLaren driver Oscar Piastre was fastest in qualifying ahead of the Formula 1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
The Australian completed the lap in 1:14,670 minutes for the third pole position of his career.
Red Bull's Max Verstappen was second, and Mercedes driver George Russell was third.
Slijede Lando Noris, Fernando Alonso, Karlos Sains, Aleksander Albon, Lens Strol, Isak Hadžar i Pjer Gasli.
Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton failed to make it, finishing 11th and 12th respectively.
Qualifying was marked by Red Bull driver Yuki Cunoda's off-track incident at the start of the first session. Cunoda flipped his car over, but escaped unharmed.
The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix race is scheduled for Sunday at 15 p.m.
