Red Bull driver Max Verstappen said that the team had made great progress since the first free practice sessions in Imola, and that he was pleased with his fourth consecutive victory at the legendary track.

"A huge improvement compared to Friday and I'm very happy about that. The virtual safety car came in handy for us going into the pits (lap 30), even on the hard tyres our pace was very strong, but then the safety car came in (lap 47), so the group came back again. Even on the 'restart' we did everything perfectly and took home the victory," said Verstappen, who recorded his 65th Formula 1 triumph in Imola, reported the BBC.

The four-time consecutive world champion celebrated Red Bull's 400th Formula 1 race with his second triumph of the season.

Verstappen also spoke about the very start of the race, when he passed the first-place Oscar Piastre from McLaren on the outside.

"The start itself wasn't particularly good, but I stayed on a good path and thought I could get past on the outside - and I did. That then affected our pace, because once we took the lead, the car was very good and I was able to keep an eye on the tyres. We had a really good pace," said the Dutch driver.

Second place was taken by McLaren driver Lando Norris, who pointed out that Red Bull was a little faster on the track.

"A good race. For us as a team, second and third place are great. Of course, I would have liked to be in front, to fight against Max, but they were too good for us," said Norris, who also spoke about the duel with his teammate.

"In the end we had a good little battle between Oscar and myself, which was tense but also fun," the British driver pointed out.

Third place was taken by Pjastri, who pointed out that after a bad start from pole position, they made some wrong decisions.

"This wasn't the best Sunday for us. There are a few things we need to analyse and review. Well done to Max and Red Bull, they had a good pace. We will look back and see what we can improve," said Piastre, leading the overall standings after seven races.

In the overall standings, Piastre leads with 146 points, Norris is second with 133 points, and Verstappen is third with 124 points.

The next race is in seven days for the Monaco Grand Prix.
