Goalball club Nikšić failed to qualify for the final of the Club World Championship in Espoo, Finland.
Nikšić was defeated by the Brazilian team Instituto Athlon 10:1 in the semifinals today.
The Brazilian team, composed of the winners of the most prestigious medals from the most important world competitions, reached the final with maximum performance.
The first favorite of the tournament justified that role, gaining a convincing advantage early on, which he increased until the end, to a final score of 10:1.
The team from Nikšić did not function very well in the semi-final duel, the attack completely stopped, while the defense, with several mistakes, allowed the rival to gain an advantage at the start and take the match in the desired direction.
The only goal for the Montenegrin representative was scored by Nikola Nikolić.
Earlier today, Nikšić defeated the Lithuanian Lions 7:3 in the quarterfinal match and advanced to the semifinals with their third consecutive triumph.
The Montenegrin representative led throughout the match, taking a 2:0 lead at the start, and a two-goal advantage at halftime (3:1). At the start of the second half, they increased the advantage to three (4:1), and resolved all dilemmas with three consecutive goals for a 7:2 lead.
The most efficient player in the winning team was Nikola Nikolić with six goals, and Matej Ledinek also scored.
Nikolić said that he was satisfied with his team's performance in the tournament, but not with the performance in the semi-final duel.
"The defeat in the semi-final left a bitter taste. We have to gather our energy and strength in the match for third place and try to win a medal. This is a great success for our club, for our city and country. We have to have a strong focus tomorrow, to give our all and every last atom of strength, to play our best," said the younger of the Nikolić brothers.
The rival of the Nikšić team in the match for third place, tomorrow at 11 am, will be the Brazilian Sesi, whom they beat in the group 8:7.
The final is scheduled for tomorrow at 14 pm, in which Hanza and Instituto Athlon, the teams with the highest performance in the competition so far, will meet.
