Italian cyclist Jonathan Milan is the winner of today's 17th stage of the Tour de France, which ended in rainy conditions with a sprint in Valence.
The Lidl-Trek rider won the flat stage from Bollen to Valence (160,4 kilometers) in three hours, 25 minutes and 30 seconds, ending a six-year streak of Italians without a Tour de France victory.
At the finish of the stage, a group of cyclists crashed on a wet road, and among other things, the current European champion, Belgian Tim Merlir, withdrew from the race.
Second place in today's stage was taken by Belgian Jordi Meus, while Dane Tobias Lund Andresen crossed the finish line in third.
The overall standings are led by last year's winner, Slovenian Tadej Pogačar (Emirates), with four stages to go, with a total time of 61 hours, 51 minutes and 25 seconds.
Second place belongs to Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegore (Visma), four minutes and 15 seconds behind, and in third place is German Florijan Lipovic, nine minutes and three seconds behind.
The green jersey for the best sprinter is worn by Milan with 312 points, while Pogačar is in second place with 72 points less.
Tomorrow, the "royal stage" with three Alpine climbs of the highest category is on the program, and it will run from Vif to Courchevel, covering a distance of 171,5 kilometers.
