Whether its cars were green and white, red and white, grey or orange, McLaren always had something special, it was always a Formula 1 giant, an iconic team from Woking...
Besides the big names who defended those colors, the unforgettable races, victories, and titles, what is especially memorable are the rivalries between its drivers who were expected to be teammates, but on the track turned into fierce rivals fighting for the championship crown.
Something closer in the past is remembered Fernando Alonso and Luis Hamilton, but it is well known that perhaps the greatest rivalry in F1 history is linked to this team - it was two unforgettable years and battles Ajrtona Sene i Alan Prost in McLaren cars.
And then, after hard times, after many dry years, the British giant once again has two guys aiming for the title.
Oskar Pjastri i Lando Norris They have been entertaining the planet during every race this season, with only nine points separating them with 10 stops to go in the championship, in favor of the Australian, and it has long been practically clear that McLaren will have a champion for the first time since 2008 and Hamilton.
It's not exactly a rivalry like between Senna and Prost.
Alonso and Hamilton didn't like each other during 2007, when he "stole" the title from them by just one point. Kimi Raikkonen in Ferrari. Senna and Prost practically waged war on the track during the epic races of 1988 and 1989, when they each won one crown, and although there have been sparks between Piastre and Norris this season - such as when they collided in Canada - it is clear that the two are quite different from the other two tandems.
- We have the freedom to race from McLaren and I really don't think our rivalry can be as fierce as it was between Senna and Prost - believes Piastre.
Unlike the legendary drivers from Brazil and France, none of McLaren's stars this season have ever been champions before, so it's clear the stakes couldn't be higher. However, the Australian and the Briton seem to be firmly on the ground.
- We are both very aware that we want to keep this opportunity that we currently have, which is both the car and the team in this situation, to fight for titles, for as long as possible. The best way to help the team, apart from driving fast, is to be humble, to have confidence and to create a positive atmosphere in the team - added Piastre.
The guy from Melbourne is aware of how quickly things can change in sports.
- Everything I mentioned is extremely important for this year, but especially for the future. We all know how things can go wrong, but we have many reasons to try to prevent that from happening - Piastre is clear.
Prost: Piastre reminds me of me
Prost himself spoke about McLaren's new championship tandem.
"I really honestly think those two won't have the problems that Senna and I had," the four-time Formula 1 champion is clear.
However, one of them reminds him of the young Prost.
- I know Piastrius very well, I like the way he drives and I think he's a bit like me in that respect - he thinks in an instant how to make the right maneuver when overtaking and how to be a little more cunning - Prost pointed out.
The Formula 1 caravan has made 14 stops this season, with ten more to go - Piastre has nine points ahead of Norris, McLaren is waiting for the title. It seems that there could not be a better announcement of the finale.
