Marc Marquez has been demonstrating class above the competition this season. The Spanish and Moto GP icon, the older of the Marquez brothers, crashed in the Misano sprint, but will compete at Misano today from 14pm for the San Marino Grand Prix.
Starting from fourth position and second row, pole was won by Marko Beceki on an Aprilia, who also won the sprint. Second was Alex Marquez on a Gresini Ducati, while Fabio Quartararo on a Yamaha also started from the front row.
But the most trophy-winning motorcyclist will not give up the fight for victory.
"Yes, I passed that corner at the limit. But I'm sure I didn't push [the bike's capabilities] too much. I was riding well. That's why I went to overtake Beceki, because I saw that my pace was better on that lap. I did the most difficult thing with success, and then I made a mistake in a simple corner, pushing too much. In the 15th corner I went too wide, and that's a typical crash at Misano," explained the Moto GP leader and added:
"What can I say, nobody is perfect. In general, I've taken a lot of risks in sprints this season and I've succeeded every time. One day, a crash had to happen. I haven't made a mistake in sprints since last year in Austria. So, it happens. And it happened in a fairly simple situation, because at that moment I was already in the lead. Maybe I wasn't paying attention to the temperature of the tires and they overheated. That's easily possible because I overtook Beceki just a few corners earlier. In any case, I didn't go beyond the capabilities of the bike," said Marquez.
