Ocean Live Park, the central segment of the final stage of the prestigious European regatta The Ocean Race Europe 2025, was officially opened today on the Pine promenade in Tivat. Over the next seven days, visitors will have the opportunity to participate in more than 50 program units - from scientific workshops and university presentations, to concerts, film screenings and theater performances.
The educational program of Ocean Live Park is implemented in cooperation with the Faculty of Maritime Studies and the Institute of Marine Biology, while the cultural segment brings diverse artistic content to multiple locations. Representatives of state and local institutions spoke at the opening, emphasizing the importance of such a prestigious sailing event for the promotion of the maritime tradition of Montenegro, as well as the positioning of Tivat and Boka Kotorska on the world nautical map.
As stated by the Minister of Maritime Affairs, Filip Radulović, The Ocean Race Europe 2025 is more than a sports regatta, it is a symbol of connecting culture, people and tradition.
"The arrival of the world's most prestigious teams in our bay waters represents a historic moment and confirmation of Montenegro's international reputation. The Government of Montenegro sees this opportunity not only as an incentive for economic development and new jobs, but also as a way to strengthen the tourist identity of our country. The Ocean Race Europe 2025 carries a strong message about the preservation of the sea and natural resources, a value to which Montenegro is deeply committed. We are confident that Boka Kotorska will shine in full glory and show the world its beauty, culture and hospitality."" Radulovic said.
The Mayor of the Municipality, Željko Komnenović, expressed his satisfaction that Tivat is hosting the race final, which has also made it the sports epicenter of Europe.
"This is an opportunity for us all to enjoy sailing together, in the beautiful September weather, in the numerous activities that the organizers have prepared. This is also an opportunity to further educate ourselves, to raise awareness of the importance of caring for the sea and the specific bay environment, as a valuable resource that we have inherited, which we have at our disposal and which we must pass on intact to the next generations," said Komnenović, inviting all citizens of Montenegro to visit Tivat during the event..
At Ocean Live Park, the United Nations Mission will also be presented through content focusing on sustainable development, protection of the underwater and coastal areas.. UN Resident Coordinator Caroline Tiso emphasized that the Montenegrin coast is more than a beautiful landscape – it is a lifeline.
"Although small in size, Montenegro has enormous natural resources. Every coastal state – large or small – has a role to play in preserving our seas and oceans," said Tiso, emphasizing that the seas and oceans are facing unprecedented pressure.
"Rising temperatures, pollution and plastic waste are rapidly threatening the survival of marine ecosystems. It is time for decisive, concerted action. The oceans belong to all of humanity and must be protected together. Just as sailors work together to ride the waves, so too must states and communities unite to protect our shared lifeline – our seas and oceans," said Tiso.
According to Richard Brisius, race director, The Ocean Race Europe has been the toughest test for teams since 1973, and for 50 years it has also been exploring and finding new ways to connect the world.
"At Ocean Race, we are firmly committed to restoring the health of the oceans. As Ambassador Peter Thomson, the United Nations Special Envoy for the Ocean, reminds us - we cannot have a healthy planet without a healthy ocean. Together, we have brought to Boka not only a race, but also a mission to protect the ocean and unite people around the world. In today's world, which needs it more than ever, that is the legacy we will build here together," stressed Brisius.
On behalf of the organizers, Captain Vladimir Šparović and President of the Organizing Committee of The Ocean Race Boka Bay invited all citizens and visitors to visit Ocean Live Park in the coming days.
"This is the largest sporting event ever held in our country. But not only that, this is also an event that promotes the international fight for the protection of the world's seas. And for that reason, it is of great importance for our country as a coastal state. Enjoy the next seven days in the unique attractions that Ocean Race is preparing for you, in the Ocean Live Park, as well as on the regatta field in the Bay of Tivat, where you will be able to see the world's fastest sails in action," concluded Šparović.
The ribbon cutting ceremony for the Ocean Live Park was held by the Minister of Maritime Affairs, Filip Radulović, and the ambassador of the final race, our sailor Milivoj Dukić. The Park's program for the next seven days will include scientific presentations, children's workshops, exhibitions, concerts, film screenings, and talks with researchers.
