Gresini rider Fermin Aldeger took advantage of the favorite's "crash" and took the first victory of his Moto GP career, after celebrating at the Indonesian Grand Prix, the 18th race of the season at the Mandalika track.
Pole position was held by Aprilia rider Marko Beceki, who "ran into" the champion on Ducati, Marc Marquez, on the first lap.
The Spaniard suffered a serious shoulder injury - a broken collarbone, just a week after securing his ninth overall title and seventh Moto GP title in Japan.
"Ligament damage is also suspected, in addition to a fracture," said Marquez, who will travel to Spain for detailed examinations.
On the way to his first title in six years, the Ducati rider went through numerous ups and downs, a total of five arm and shoulder surgeries, 30 missed races and 108 crashes.
Spaniard Aldeger rode brilliantly, winning ahead of Pedro Acosta on KTM and clubmate Alex Marquez.
The next race of the Moto GP championship is the Australian Grand Prix at the Phillip Island circuit from October 17th to 19th.
