New MotoGP champion Ducati rider Marc Marquez injured his collarbone in a crash during today's Indonesian Grand Prix.
Marquez, who won his seventh championship title in the "royal" class last week in Japan, and the ninth overall in his career, was injured on the first lap after an incident with Marko Beceki from Aprilia.
He was holding onto his right shoulder after falling onto the gravel and was immediately taken to the medical center for examination.
"As a result of today's crash at Mandalika, Marc Marquez has injured his right collarbone. The Spanish rider will travel to Madrid tonight for further medical examinations to determine the course of treatment," Ducati said in a statement, as reported by the BBC.
Marquez injured his right shoulder on the arm he broke in 2020, which required him to undergo numerous surgeries.
"The plan is to travel to Madrid as soon as possible. Then I'll go straight to the doctor, to fix my collarbone, as I feel something is broken. After that, I'll listen to the doctor to recover as best as possible," Marquez told the Moto GP website.
"This is racing and these things happen. It's true that sometimes it's not my fault, and Marko Beceki has already come to apologize to me," added the 32-year-old motorcyclist.
He called on fans on social media not to hold grudges against Beceki, saying: "Nobody does it on purpose."
Gresini rider Fermin Aldeger won the race in Indonesia, which was his first Moto GP triumph.
"I can't believe it, I'm so happy. I'm a beginner, we're doing an incredible job. I have to keep it up," Aldeger said.
