Seven-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez has undergone surgery on his right shoulder, his Ducati team announced.
Marquez, who had already won the premier class title, was injured on October 5 when he crashed on the first lap of the Indonesian Grand Prix after contact with Marko Beceki.
Marquez had a similar injury in 2020.
He then missed the rest of the campaign due to several surgeries and it took him three seasons to get back into shape.
Ducati, however, has now ruled out any link between the two injuries.
Marquez has already been announced as unavailable for the next two race weekends, in Australia (October 17-19) and Malaysia (October 24-26).
He will be replaced in Australia by Italian Michele Piro.
