Filip Kunčer finished his first season on the big automotive scene, on iconic tracks across Europe - as the champion in the Renault Clio Cup Challenger category and as a debutant who, with his talent, skill, speed and attitude, showed not only that he can compete with the favorites and seasoned aces, but also that he can seriously threaten and disrupt them.
In an interview with TV Vijesti, as part of the Sportske priče show, Filip revealed how he experienced the first season, what it was like to be part of a major competition, as well as his plans for the future.
The baptism of fire was, as he says, full of ups and downs - a dream start and a podium in the first race, with 14th place in qualifying, and in the next race - through no fault of his own - two serious accidents on the track...
"That's how I would sum up the entire season. I had some great rides, there were my mistakes, both on and off the track, there were unfair penalties, and when you add it all up - the title in the challenger class and seventh place in the overall standings out of 60 drivers - I have to be satisfied," said Kunčer.
Although he was aware of the level he was coming to - without, realistically, too much experience, he wanted exactly that kind of challenge, and the Clio Cup is a competition that, he points out, is specific in the world of auto-moto sports, with constant crowds on the track, in a sometimes chaotic situation caused by around 60 cars.
"I might move up to a stronger class tomorrow, I have such ambitions, but I maintain that the Clio Cup is one of the most competitive competitions in motorsports."
He had many great moments, but one in particular stands out...
"I think I'm the driver with the most laps. For example, in Valencia, on a narrow track, I was fifth in qualifying, but because of a penalty I started from 40th place. In the end I was 13th in the race, which shows how fast and skilled I am, and that with a little luck next season I can fight for victory in every race."
First season - and first lessons. Filip Kunčer is recognized as a fast and brave driver, but these qualities alone do not make a driver a top champion.
"I definitely need to work on the psychological aspect, how to survive situations that are not easy at all. This season has been a great experience," Filip points out.
In the Sportske priče show on Sunday at 19:30 PM, find out what his relationships are like with his rivals on the track, his plans for the next season, what kind of car he will drive, as well as his opinion on the conditions for engaging in motorsports in Montenegro...
