Montenegrin table tennis player Filip Radović finished the competition in the second group of the European Championship in Helsingborg with a mediocre performance.
The other Montenegrin representative, Luka Bakić, started his appearance at the championship with a defeat, so the issue of placing among the top eight will be resolved tomorrow, on the second day of competition.
In the S10 category, Radović defeated Spaniard Marlon Lopez 3:1 (10:12, 11:4, 13:11 and 11:6) in the first round, while in the second round he was surprisingly defeated by Pole Pawel Wlodika 3:1 (11:6, 7:11, 11:5 and 11:8).
The final group standings will be known tomorrow after the duel between Vlodika and Lopez.
Radović said he was not satisfied with his performance, stating that he struggled in the first match against Lopez, a debutant at the European Championship.
"The Spaniard also had a set point in the third set for 2:1. I managed to draw that match on experience and win it. In the second match, I was unable to come back, the Pole was better. I congratulate him on his victory. I can only hope that by the will of the draw I will not come up against Patrik Čajnovski in the quarterfinals," said Radović.
He pointed out that a difficult period has passed behind him and that he has been unable to find himself for the last six months.
"I don't know what the reason is. During that period, I was competing with stronger players and I thought that when I met some of the players I was better than, my game would come to the fore. The series of poor results has continued, I hope I will manage to rise in the quarterfinals," said Radović.
Bakić was defeated in the first group by the world ranking leader, Frenchman Mateo Bohas 3:1 (11:4, 11:5, 9:11 and 11:6).
The French table tennis player also celebrated against German Mio Wagner earlier today and secured first place in the group.
Bakić will decide which of the two will continue competing in the championship in a duel with Vagner tomorrow at 14:50 PM.
"It wasn't until the third set that I started playing better than in the first two. A tough match, like every first in the tournament. Tomorrow I have a quarterfinal duel with Vagner," said Bakić.
The quarterfinal pairings will be determined by a draw tomorrow.
The quarterfinal and semifinal matches are scheduled for Saturday, while the final is scheduled for Sunday.
Montenegrin table tennis players in Helsingborg are led by coaches Čedomir Damjanović and Dejan Bašanović.
After six years, Helsingborg once again hosted the best pair table tennis players in Europe, with 264 competitors from 37 countries competing for a medal.
