McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastre have been disqualified - their results have been annulled and excluded from the final standings of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Norris was second after the race, Piatri fourth, but...
The reason for the disqualification was excessive wear on the car's skid plates. An inspection by FIA technical experts revealed irregularities - both cars had been worn 8,88 and 8,93 mm above the permitted limit.
As a result of the disqualification, Norris lost second place and Piastra lost fourth place at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
What does this mean - with two races to go, Norris has 24 points more than his club colleague Piastrius, who is tied on points with the winner in Las Vegas and four-time consecutive champion in Red Bull, Max Verstappen.
There are 33 points up for grabs in the race, eight in Saturday's sprint and 25 in Sunday's race.
Norris lost the most with the disqualification in Las Vegas, because in Qatar, with the race to go, he could have celebrated the title if he had not lost by five points to Piastre and 17 to the Flying Dutchman Verstappen.
Now the points balance is as follows: Norris 390 points, Pjastri and Verstappen 366 each, with the Australian ahead of the Dutchman in Red Bull due to the greater number of wins in the season.
The last race is in Abu Dhabi on December 7th and a total of 58 points are on the line until the end.
