The President of the Sports Commission of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee (COK), Milivoj Dukić, signed a declaration on the rights of athletes in the development of our sport.
"With this Declaration, we emphasize our shared commitment to ensuring that sport in Montenegro is safe, inclusive, transparent and focused on the well-being of every athlete," Dukić wrote.
What does the Declaration contain?
ATHLETES AT THE CENTER OF THE SYSTEM
Athletes must be direct partners in the creation of sports policies and decision-making processes.
Their voice, experience and needs must be the starting point of any development of sports in Montenegro.
RIGHTS, DIGNITY AND PROTECTION
All athletes have the right to a safe environment, physical and psychological protection, and zero tolerance for violence, discrimination, and harassment.
The protection of mental health, available professional support and respect for dignity represent an obligation of the entire sports system.
FAIR CONDITIONS AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES
Sport in Montenegro must provide equal opportunities for everyone, regardless of gender, age, origin, economic status, disability or any other personal circumstance.
Special emphasis is placed on the advancement of women's sport and access to vulnerable groups, with the implementation of gender-sensitive policies and practices.
INTEGRITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY
Maintaining the integrity of sport is based on transparency, accountability and respect for ethical standards.
Anti-doping systems, fair selection criteria, responsible governance and impartial decisions must be the foundation of sporting trust.
EDUCATION AND DUAL CAREER
Athletes have the right to education, professional development and preparation for life after their sports career.
Dual careers must become the standard, with strong cooperation between the sports and education systems.
MENTAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
Taking care of mental health must have the same importance as taking care of physical health.
Stress prevention, psychological support, and the development of mental resilience should be incorporated into all phases of sports life, including training, competition, and transition.
SHARED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FUTURE
We call on the state, sports federations, schools, universities, media, parents, and the entire society to recognize sport as an area of public interest and long-term value.
Only by working together can we build a system that values integrity, knowledge, health, and human values as much as sporting results.
Finally, it is concluded:
This Declaration represents our common position that sport in Montenegro must be a space of safety, respect, development and equal opportunities for all.
We reaffirm our commitment to placing athletes at the center of the system, ensuring that their voices are heard, their efforts recognized, and their well-being prioritized.
We stand for a Montenegro in which every athlete has the right to support, protection, fair conditions and an environment that values their efforts, talents and dreams.
"Together we are building a sporting future that is fair, open, dignified and worthy of the values that sport carries: courage, integrity, solidarity and respect," the statement signed by the Montenegrin sailor emphasizes.
