San Siro or "football stadium", the place where the World Cup was played in 1934, and then unforgettable in 1990, home of the greats Milan and Inter, tomorrow night (Friday) will probably host the spectacle that the whole world is watching for the last time.
The Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo will be officially opened at the football temple that witnessed the history of this game from 20 pm. As "San Siro" will go down in history in the early thirties, the reality is that this February it will be part of a great sports story for the last time.
"When we think about San Siro, it's not just about the stadium, because it's like a monument. Rome has the Colosseum, and here we have San Siro," Italian journalist Francesco Porzio told the BBC.
The stadium in Milan has been one of the most beautiful in the world since its renovation for the 1990 World Cup, but time has left its mark and two major football clubs from this city have decided to demolish it and build a new home.
"When you compare San Siro with other stadiums that have been built in Europe in recent years, it's clear that Milan's is missing something. Honestly, when you watch the game, the years that have passed are starting to show," Porcio pointed out.
Ski legends and flames
The organizers of the Olympic Games have tried to hide who will have the honor of lighting the Olympic flame, but Italian media claim that everything is already known.
They will be the country's skiing legends - Alberto Tomba and Debora Compagnoni, writes "Gazeta dello Sport".
Tomba will bring the Olympic torch to the Arco della Pace near San Siro, while Compagnoni will perform the honor in the Dolomites at Piazza Dibona in Cortina. Thus, for the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, the opening ceremony will be held in two places - in Milan and Cortina.
The grand opening ceremony will show whether the media reported everything accurately or whether the organizers managed to keep something as a surprise.
Bocelli, Pausini, Carey...
The hosts did not hide some things, and that is that Milno and Cortina will also host a musical spectacle during the opening.
Italian music legends, the famous tenor Andrea Bocelli, as well as Laura Pausini, will perform, along with American Mariah Carey.
The artistic program will showcase the cultures of Italy and the host city, and 93 nations will appear in a parade of athletes through San Siro. The Games will be opened by Italian President Sergio Mattarella.
When it comes to numbers, 2.871 athletes (1.533 men and 1.338 women) will compete at the Games, and by February 22nd, when they end, a total of 116 events will be held in eight sports and 16 disciplines.
Competitions in curling and the women's ice hockey tournament have started even before the opening ceremony, and on Saturday morning the world will enjoy the spectacle and one of the most anticipated competitions - the men's downhill skiing.
During the Games, male skiers will compete on the iconic Stelvio in Bormio, and female skiers (the first downhill will take place a day later) on the "Tofana" in Cortina.
Montenegro with two representatives, Peković carries the flag
For the fifth time in a row, Montenegro will be part of the Winter Olympic Games, and our country's representatives are Branislav Peković in alpine skiing and Aleksandar Grbović in Nordic skiing.
Peković had the honor of carrying the Montenegrin flag at the grand opening ceremony.
Our country first appeared at the Winter Games in 2010 in Vancouver.
