Lindsey Vonn broke her left leg in the Olympic downhill, it was confirmed at the hospital in Treviso, where the 41-year-old ski star already underwent surgery last night.
Even a day after the horrific fall during the Winter Olympics, the American is the number one topic at the Winter Olympics, and the famous Italian Alberto Tomba has also spoken out.
And he said what many people think - that Lindsay shouldn't have even participated considering the condition she was in before the Games.
"She shouldn't have competed in Crans-Montana. When you feel like you're in good shape, you want to win again and one race leads to another. But, after five years of preparing for these Olympics - she took a risk," Tomba said.
When asked if rule changes were needed to protect athletes, Tomba was cautious.
"It's not easy. You can say that, but when you're at the start... I was maybe the only one who wouldn't have started if the conditions weren't right. The times are different, the tracks are different," Tomba added.
Von is stable, the American team said.
The American star, who competed at the age of 41 despite a knee injury, fell heavily in the downhill race and was airlifted to hospital.
Nine days ago, she tore a ligament in her left knee, but still decided to compete on the famous Tofane course, where she has won 12 times.
The winner of the downhill gold medal in 2010 and bronze in 2018 caught the gate with her shoulder and lost control - she then flew into the air and fell at high speed.
