Organizers of the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina have announced that they have found a solution to the broken medals that athletes have been complaining about.
The organizers conducted an investigation with the Italian state mint, which was in charge of producing the medals, and concluded that only a limited number of medals had an error, although it was not specified what type of error it was.
"A targeted investigation was carried out and a solution was found. Milano Cortina 2026 confirms its commitment to ensuring that medals, which symbolise the greatest achievement in an athlete's career, meet quality standards and attention to detail," said the Olympic Games' communications director, Luca Casasa.
The gold medals from this year's Winter Olympics weigh 500 grams, of which six grams are gold. The silver medals weigh the same, while the bronze medals are slightly lighter, weighing 420 grams.
