A resident of Žabljak is almost among the top 50 in the world!
Or, more precisely, among the 54...
Aleksandar Grbović, one of only two representatives of Montenegro at the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina, had a great day.
In the qualifying performance in Nordic skiing, in the 1,5 kilometer sprint with the classic technique - a discipline unknown in Montenegro - he finished in 54th place out of a total of 95 competitors.
He also commented:
"A phenomenal race. A really, really good result and I'm very pleased. I ran the best race of my life and represented myself and the country of Montenegro with dignity," said 22-year-old Grbović.
The fact that he finished 84th and 93rd in the same discipline at the previous games, which were held in Beijing in 2022, shows how much progress he has made.
He spoke about his preparation for the Winter Olympics back in October last year in an interview with Vijesti.
"I only have support from the Ski Association of Montenegro. No support from other state institutions and sports circles. The equipment is expensive and I buy everything myself. Unfortunately, individual sports are neglected in our country."
He also said that the Montenegrin Olympic Committee doesn't care too much about him.
"We're not really in touch. They're not really interested in me, or whether I'm OK, whether I'm, number one, healthy or anything like that..."
