Red Bull driver Max Verstappen was fastest today in the first part of pre-season testing in Bahrain, ahead of the start of the new Formula 1 season.
Testing of new cars began in Bahrain today ahead of the season in which new technical rules come into effect, and Verstappen achieved a time of 1:35,433 minutes, 0,169 seconds faster than McLaren driver Oscar Piastre.
Mercedes driver George Russell was third, Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton fourth and Haas' Esteban Ocon fifth.
Williams took the car out for the first time this year, after missing testing in Spain last month and its driver Carlos Sainz finished seventh.
The new Cadillac team took ninth place, driven by Valtteri Bottas, while Aston Martin, led by famous designer Adrian Newey from this season, took 10th place, driven by Lance Stroll.
Each team took one driver out onto the track in the morning part of the program, while the others will perform in the afternoon, including current world champion Lando Norris from McLaren.
Testing in Bahrain will take place from February 11th to 13th, as well as from February 18th to 20th.
The new Formula 1 season begins on March 8th with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
