American speed skater Jordan Stolz justified his role as the favorite and won the gold medal in the 500-meter race at the Winter Olympics, breaking the Olympic record with a time of 33,77 seconds.
Although the scoreboard in Milan initially showed the result as 33,79 seconds, it was later recorded that the new record was two hundredths better.
Just like in the 1.000 meters, behind Stolz came Dutchman Jenning de Bo, who also had an outstanding result - 33,88 seconds.
He achieved the highest maximum speed during the race (60,5 kilometers per hour), while Stolz did not exceed 59,8, but consistency throughout the race once again brought him the overall victory.
Third was Canadian Laurent Debray, with a time of 34,26 seconds.
Interestingly, all medal winners in this discipline broke the previous Olympic record (34,32 seconds) set at the previous Games.
