Grandmaster Denis Kadrić is one step away from winning the title at the 78th Montenegrin Chess Championship. Ahead of the final round, Kadrić took the lead in the standings, thanks to a victory over FIDE master Andrej Šuković.
Kadrić won with the black pieces. The Pirč Defense was played, and the entire game was within the limits of equality, and when the endgame with different-colored bishops remained on the board, Šuković went for the win, which Kadrić took advantage of and triumphed after the reversal. With this victory, Kadrić is one step closer to the title, and a draw in the final round, in which he meets Nikita Petrov, will be enough for him.
Grandmaster Nikola Đukić and FIDE master Jovan Milović played a spectacular game. After a series of tactical moves, Milović reached a dominant endgame, in which he did not cope well, and in the end their duel ended in a draw, after more than five hours of fighting.
Grandmaster Nikita Petrov found his rhythm in the second part of the tournament, even though he had to say goodbye to defending his title. In today's duel, Petrov defeated international master Blaž Kalezić with the black pieces.
An important victory for the upper part of the table was also achieved by FIDE master Oleg Jaksin, who defeated grandmaster Nebojša Nikčević.
