Kristina Rakočević, once our most talented athlete, the 2016 world champion in discus throwing in the under-20 category, the gold medalist at the 2013 European Youth Olympic Festival, and the world vice-champion in the junior category, announced on social media that she will no longer compete for the Montenegrin national team.
She posted a correspondence on Facebook with her former clubmate from Mojkovac's AK Tar, now the director of ASCG, Daniel Furtula, and in an emotional message explained why she decided to quit.
She stated that she was not allowed to compete at the recently held Balkan Championships.
"Montenegro, my beauty! My love for you is so pure and strong, so fortunately I can separate you from your failed system and continue to love you. I am writing this to you as your child, who was swallowed by that same system for years and finally swallowed," Kristina wrote.
She added:
"I cannot and will not represent you on the international sports scene anymore. Forgive me. Forgive the uneducated directors, associates, DIF workers and plumbers with purchased diplomas from Pristina and Leposavić, which was once offered to me. Luckily I turned it down, I still can't do a pull-up."
They also offered me to throw a lighter discus, to qualify for the Olympics, "everyone around us is doing it, what would make me look like a fool" - and I would be ashamed. I would be so ashamed that I moved to Sweden, then to America. In America, they didn't offer the Olympics, but they gave me free undergraduate and master's degrees. What amateurs, I thought to myself.
Rakočević announced that according to the Scholarship Agreement with ASCG, she receives 300 euros per month.
"The director who refers to the Agreement, it seems to me that he hasn't even read it. Maybe he's been busy performing two functions that are in conflict of interest for more than a year. Well, it's not easy to be both a director and a councilor of the Mojkovac Municipal Council.
Article 3 of the aforementioned Agreement does not list or include travel expenses, and I will start setting aside 20 or 50 of these 300 euros, and I will compete in the 2033 Balkan Championship when I save up or when the system changes, whichever comes first.
It is alleged that the Federation deliberately did not plan travel funds for athletes who train outside the country, which is 80 percent of active athletes who can qualify for some major competitions. Does the Ministry of Sports know why their athletes/athletes do not train in Montenegro?
