Swedish athlete Armand Duplantis suffered his first pole vault defeat since 2023, after failing to win in front of his home crowd at the Diamond League meeting in Stockholm.
The current world record holder cleared 5,80 meters, which is 51 centimeters less than his latest world record of 6,31 meters. Duplantis then failed to clear 6,00 meters in two attempts, and then 6,05 in a third attempt.
The victory was taken by Australian Kurtis Marshall with a jump of 5,90 meters.
For Duplantis, this was his first outdoor appearance of the season.
"I was a little unfocused today. I really didn't want to lose here in front of my family and fans. I haven't lost in three years, but hats off to Kurtis. He beat me completely deservedly and I have no excuse," Duplantis said.
The defeat in Stockholm ended the impressive unbeaten streak of one of the greatest pole vaulters in the history of athletics, who in the meantime won Olympic and world gold medals, as well as repeatedly breaking the world record.
