Hamilton seals championship with 106th win, Antonelli's car breaks down

Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton won the Catalan Grand Prix in Barcelona. This was the legendary Briton's 106th victory in Formula 1 and his first with the Italian team.

This is the seven-time world champion's first triumph after 685 days and a race in Belgium. At that time, he was still behind the wheel of a Mercedes.

Lewis also sealed the championship race. He reduced the gap to just 41 points over leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who retired today.

Hamilton chose an excellent strategy at "Catalunya". He changed tires three times, and he was helped by the great battle between Mercedes drivers George Russell and Antonelli.

Also, Fernando Alonso's retirement, followed by a virtual safety car, gave Hamilton time for a third pit stop, after which he took the lead. From that moment on, he controlled the pace of the race and routinely came away with a triumph.

The championship leader suffered a heavy blow, losing his place after five consecutive victories. On lap 63, the young Italian's car failed, just two laps after he had moved into second place by overtaking Russell.

Second place went to Russell, and the all-British podium was completed by current Formula 1 champion Lando Norris from McLaren.

The first 10 finished his journey: Max Ferstapen, Oskar Pjastri, Isak Hajar, Pjer Gasli, Franko Kolapinto, Lijam Loson and Arvid Lindblad.

As for the overall standings, Antonelli is first with 156 points. Hamilton is breathing down his neck in second place with 115, while only third-placed Russell (106) has a triple-digit number of points.
