"A year ago this was a dream, every triumph is special, but this is something different"

For the first time since he joined Ferrari, and the 106th time since he has been driving in Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton climbed to the top step of the podium today.

The Briton drove the Catalan Grand Prix excellently, primarily tactically, and took advantage of the battle between the two Mercedes drivers, George Russell and Kimi Antonelli.

Hamilton was emotional in his statements after the race.

"I had a dream a year ago, it seemed impossible during last season, but we didn't give up hope, and the team continued to lift me up. We changed a lot, we improved a lot. On top of that, I have the best fans anyone could wish for."

Although this is his 106th career triumph, this one is special because it was achieved in Ferrari colors and in a Ferrari car.

"Each one is special in its own way, but this one is something else. I followed Ferrari's successes when I was younger, on television, and while I was racing I always imagined what it would be like to win in that car and now it has happened. Everyone has worked hard for this, everyone has deserved this. I am eternally grateful to them and I hope this is just the first of many."

With today's victory, Hamilton introduced additional uncertainty in the general classification as well. He came close to Antonelli by only 41 points, considering that the young Italian retired today due to a car breakdown.

"I'm definitely there, it's a long way to go, Mercedes still have a great pace, but we'll keep working and trying to close the gap. Nothing is over, definitely," Hamilton concluded.
