The Montenegrin men's rugby 7s team, with three wins and two losses, won 5th place at the Rugby Europe Conference 2 tournament held over the weekend in Kosovo.
In the group stage competition, Montenegro defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 21:5 and Greece 42:0, while losing to the British territory of Gibraltar 12:24 and San Marino 21:26.
In both games that they lost, Montenegro was leading. Against Gibraltar, the Montenegrin team led 12:0 in the first four minutes, while at half-time it was 12:12. In the second half of the match, after a yellow card and a player less for Montenegro, Gibraltar took full control and eventually celebrated.
In the match with San Marino, Montenegro also quickly took a 14:0 lead, and then the opponent reduced it to 14:7. Montenegro had one try disallowed, but they managed to score a third and take a 21:7 lead. In the rest of the match, San Marino reduced the lead to 21:14 and then to 21:19, and in the last seconds scored a try for the first lead and victory.
In the continuation of the tournament, in the playoff for fifth place, Montenegro was again better than BiH when it won 26:5.
"Throughout the weekend, our national team members showed fighting spirit, character and great team spirit, achieving several important victories and confirming the progress of Montenegrin rugby on the European stage. The achieved result represents another step forward for the national team and valuable experience that will be of importance in the continuation of representative activities and future international competitions.
