Petrov and six players at the top of the table

The sixth and seventh rounds of the Montenegro Open brought great excitement, and ahead of the last two rounds in the main group, a group of seven players, including grandmaster Nikita Petrov, is at the top of the table.

Petrov used his right to a half-point bye in the sixth round, only to share a point with Indian grandmaster Shyam Sundar in the afternoon's seventh round, after an initial test of strength.

At the top of the table with 5,5 points are also the grandmasters: Lorenzo Lodići from Italy, Evgenij Romanov who defends the colors of North Macedonia and the aforementioned Sundar, as well as international master Sai Krishna from Canada, fide master Atakan Biter from Turkey who played for the Zeta team in this year's Premier League and the most pleasant surprise of the tournament, 157th seed Davit Pogosyan from Armenia, who defeated grandmaster Luka Drašković in the seventh round.

Next is a group of 12 players with 5 points, including Andrej Skvortsov, while grandmasters Nikola Đukić, Nebojša Nikčević and Denis Kadrić, and international master Blažo Kalezić are in the group of players with 4,5 points.

In the B tournament, there was a change at the top of the table, and the lead ahead of the last two rounds was taken by Elvis Kola from Albania, who defeated our representative Milojko Kandić in the sixth round. He has 6,5 points, while Kandić is in second place with 6 points.

Today is the eighth round, scheduled to start at 15 p.m. The organizer of the Montenegro Open, which brought together 270 players from 38 countries, is the Chess Federation of Montenegro, with the support of the Municipality of Budva, the Budvanska Riviera Hotel Group, and all under the auspices of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, and the World Chess Federation FIDE.
