Kandic is the champion, Petrov and Žerebci are the vice-champion titles of the Mediterranean

The Montenegro Open in Chess, which was also the Mediterranean Championship for this year, has ended in Budva, and chess fans in Montenegro can be satisfied with the results of our chess players.

Milojko Kandić won the B tournament, while Nikita Petrov and Aleksandra Žerebcova won the runner-up titles at the Mediterranean Championship.

In the main tournament, first place went to Evgeni Romanov, representing North Macedonia, second place went to our national team member Nikita Petrov, while third place went to Lorenzo Lodici from Italy. In addition to the first three places in the A tournament, they also won awards within the Mediterranean Championship. Fourth place, also with 7 points, went to Olga Badelka, representing the Austrian national team.

In the women's competition, the first prize within the Mediterranean Championship went to Eni Cvitan from Croatia, the second place went to the head of our national team, Aleksandra Žerebcova, while the third place went to Arina Kisleva, who plays for the Croatian national team.

The successful A tournament was completed by grandmaster Denis Kadrić, who took eighth place with 6,5 points, while grandmasters Nikola Đukić and Andrej Skvortsov also won prizes with 6 points.

The exceptionally successful performance of our chess players was completed by Milojko Kandić, who with 8 points won came in first place in Group B, after defeating Damir Omerović from Bosnia and Herzegovina with the black pieces in the ninth round. Among the awarded players in this tournament were: Rodoljub Pikula, Aleksandar Perošević and Ilija Ivanović.

The awards were presented to the best by the President of the World Chess Federation, Arkady Dvorkovich, who visited the tournament and Montenegro, the President of the European Chess Union, Zurab Azmaparašvili, and the President of the Montenegrin Chess Federation, Jovan Milović.

The Danilo Kiš Mixed High School was an excellent host of the tournament, which brought together 270 male and female chess players from 38 countries on four continents, and the organizers promise a new edition next year.

The organizer was the Chess Federation of Montenegro, under the auspices of the Ministry of Sports and Youth and the World Chess Federation, while the partners were: the Municipality of Budva and the Budva Riviera Hotel Group.
