Pogačar wins stage 10 of the Tour and increases his lead in the general classification

Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogačar won the 10th stage of the Tour de France and further increased his lead in the overall standings.

The Emirates team driver completed the 166,6-kilometer stage from Aurillac to Le Lioran in three hours, 58 minutes and eight seconds.

The current race leader launched a decisive attack just over 900 meters before the top of the Col de Pertis, the penultimate climb on the hilly stage.

His biggest rival, Visma team rider Danish Jonas Vingegor, failed to respond to the attack, while Pogačar first caught up with Richard Carapaz, and then overtook him about 200 meters before the top of the climb.

At the top, he had a five-second lead over Carapaz, while Vingegaard, Remko Evenepool, Florian Lipowitz, Juan Ayuso and Paul Seix were 18 seconds behind.

Pogačar further increased his lead by the finish line and took victory by 32 seconds over Evenepoul. Frenchman Paul Seix took third place, 34 seconds behind.

It was the Slovenian's 24th stage victory at the Tour de France, his third this year and the third in his career achieved on Bastille Day, France's national holiday.

Vingegor finished the stage 44 seconds behind Pogačar, who after ten stages has a lead of three minutes and 36 seconds in the general classification.

The four-time Tour champion thus achieved the largest lead he has ever had after ten stages of the most prestigious cycling race in the world.

Pogačar is first in the overall standings with a time of 36:15,02 hours, the aforementioned Vingegor is second, while Evenpul is third, four minutes and six seconds behind the Slovenian cyclist.

The next, 11th stage of the Tour de France will be ridden tomorrow from Vichy to Nevers, covering a distance of 161,3 kilometers.

The race ends in Paris on July 26th.
