Sokolovski and Rubers European champions in Cetinje

The European Youth Chess Championship has concluded in Cetinje, after nine rounds and ten days of competition between young chess players from all over Europe.

The Open title was won by Israeli grandmaster Jahli Sokolovsky, the tournament's top seed, who collected seven points. Belarusian chess player Mikhey Navumenka and Armenian grandmaster Emin Ohanyan finished with half a point less, earning silver and bronze medals, respectively, due to additional criteria.

The junior competition was dominated by the top favorite, Dutch intermaster Eline Rubers, who won the European champion title with 7,5 points. Second place went to Ukrainian Tetyana Skarbarchuk with seven, while Slovenian Anja Beber won bronze with 6,5 points.

Of the Montenegrin representatives, the best placing was achieved by FIDE master Peko Đurović, who took 35th place with 4,5 points. The same number of points was collected by Dimitrije Vujović, who finished in 38th position. Vujović ended the competition with a victory over Ukrainian Roman Kovalsky, achieving as many as 72,4 new rating points.

Đorđe Žižić and Toman Perić each won four points, while Ilija Milović finished with three, with an excellent rating performance and a gain of 62 points.

In the junior competition, the best result among Montenegrin representatives was achieved by Kira Popova with three points, while Nikolina Dževerdanović, Sofija Milović and Dorotea Andrijašević each won 2,5 points.

The awards to the most successful were presented by the legendary Montenegrin grandmaster Božidar Bonja Ivanović, who also ceremoniously closed the championship and wished the participants much success in their careers.

The championship was organized by the Chess Federation of Montenegro, under the patronage of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the Royal Capital of Cetinje, and the European Chess Union.

"The renewed edition of the European Youth Championship brought Cetinje ten days of top youth chess and once again confirmed Montenegro's readiness to host significant international chess events," said the SCG.
