Another leap into history - Marija Vuković has a new European medal

From the first jump in the cold "Alexander" stadium in Birmingham, it felt like it was going to be one of those special nights like it was four years ago in Munich.

Marija Vuković has once again pushed the boundaries, at 34 years old she is still at the top, and she brought a new medal to Montenegro from the European Championship - after the silver from the iconic Munich "Olympic Stadium", now Montenegro has been awarded a bronze medal.

Our athlete was the only one, along with Jaroslava Mahučih and Marija Žodzik, to jump 195 centimeters, and it was already clear that she had won a medal and achieved another gigantic success.

In the end, only the legendary Ukrainian surpassed 197 to defend her gold medal from Rome, while the Polish woman, who was the same height as Maria (with fewer falls), "bitten" the silver medal.

She cleared the first two heights (183, 188) on her first attempt without a mistake, at 192 centimeters she had no luck at first, but she corrected everything on her second jump.

Only five competitors reached 195, most of them continued to struggle even then, but not Marija - she cleared once more on her second attempt, and even then she could see the glow of one of the medals.

World junior gold from Moncton, European silver from Novi Sad at the same age, then Munich and Birmingham for all time and many other unforgettable jumps - Marija's story continues, because for the great athlete, age is clearly not a problem.

Among those who disappointed was Angelina Topić - silver at the European Championships in Rome two years ago and bronze at the World Championships in Tokyo in 2025. She broke the bar three times at a modest 188 centimeters for her.
