The 10th anniversary day of competition at the Mediterranean Games has ended and it can be said that Montenegrin athletes shone. We only had representatives in athletics (Marija Vuković) and sailing (Milivoj Dukić and Ilija Marković), but even that was enough for a rich and eventful day.
Of course, it was completely marked by Marija Vuković. The brilliant Montenegrin athlete brought our country its first gold medal at these Games, and its third overall, with another brilliant jump, this time of 194 centimeters.

Marija left behind Greek Elena Kuličenko and Italian Idea Pieroni. Vuković also tried with heights of 196 and 200 centimeters, but she failed to clear them. However, this did not spoil her placing, considering that 194 was unattainable for the competition.
"It was hard, but the only goal was to defend the gold from the last Mediterranean Games. The warm-up was difficult, I thought I wouldn't be able to do it, but I somehow managed to find momentum and achieved what I came for - gold for Montenegro," said Marija after her second consecutive gold at the Mediterranean Games.
This is confirmation of the great form Vuković is in at the end of this season. After bronze at the European Championships and the Diamond League meeting in Zurich, this gold came as confirmation of continuity and excellent work.
"When you get to this age, everything is easy," she began with a laugh, and then continued.
"I'm kidding, it's hard, but it's also easy because everything is going well. I'm grateful that I'm healthy and can be at this level. Today's 194 is great. I don't even know how I manage it sometimes, but I just have it in my legs. I've done good training. What changes things is faith."
The end of the season is near. Marija described it as "perfect", and she hopes to jump two meters soon.
"I'm waiting to see if there will be an Ultimate Championship on September 11th and 13th. There are some strange rules, I don't even know. I would love to be a part of that competition, but on the other hand, the season has been perfect and that's enough. It would be nice if it was two meters, but it will be," Vuković concluded.
The medal ceremony followed. Our athlete found herself on the top step of the victory podium. On that occasion, the Montenegrin anthem echoed from the "Giuseppe Valente" athletic stadium in Taranto.
Sailor Milivoj Dukić had a fantastic day. In the seventh regatta of the ILCA-7 class, he took second place, while in the eighth regatta he was third. That was enough for the Montenegrin competitor to take the lead in the overall standings before the last four regattas!
On the other hand, Ilija Marković is in 19th place in the overall standings. He was 12th in the seventh regatta today, while unfortunately he failed to finish the eighth.
