The first Masters of 2020, the tournament in Indian Wells, has been canceled due to confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Southern California.
According to the earlier plan, the tournament was supposed to be held from March 22 to XNUMX.
Local authorities are concerned that the coronavirus could spread widely and due to the safety of the players and fans, this event is being cancelled.
"The risk to public health is currently too great. It is not in the public interest of fans, players and the surrounding areas for this tournament to take place. We need to protect the community from the coronavirus together," said professor of medicine David Agus.
Tournament director Tomi Haas said that health comes first.
We are disappointed that the tournament will not take place, but the health and safety of the local community, fans, players and volunteers, sponsors, employees and everyone related to the tournament is the most important. We are ready to hold the tournament at another time and we are looking for options," Has said.
Last year, Dominik Thiem won the men's singles title, while Bianka Andreska won the women's tournament.
