The Virtual Masters in Madrid will have a big star - Rafael Nadal decided to replace his racket with a joystick and participate in the "Mutua Madrid Open Virtua Pro" from home.
A virtual tennis simulation tournament was organized to raise money to help players who currently have no income due to months of inactivity, as well as those who are sick with COVID-19.
The organizers of the Madrid tournament decided to allocate 150.000 euros in prize money and another 50.000 euros to help in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus.
"In this time of a kind of imprisonment, I am happy to be able to participate in the action. I don't know what I will be like and how much I can do, but the most important thing is to fulfill the goal and help those who need help," said Nadal.
In addition to Rafa, Andy Murray, John Isner, Luca Puy, Kiki Bertens, Angelique Kerber, Carla Suarez Navarro and Fiona Ferro have confirmed their participation for now.
They will compete April 27-30 in the Tennis World Tour video game.
The real Masters in Madrid was supposed to be held in May.
All tennis tournaments have been canceled until July 13 at the earliest.
