Serena Williams' coach Patrik Muratoglu announced today that he is launching an independent tennis league in which matches will be played without an audience.
Matches will be played from May at his academy in Nice.
Muratoglu called his venture "Ultimate Tennis Showdown" or UTS.
As he said, the plan is to broadcast 10 matches on weekends during five Sundays in May and June.
The competition should start on May 16. Then Belgian David Gofan will play against Alexey Popirin from Australia, whose father is a co-founder of UTS.
Professional tennis is suspended until mid-July.
The next Grand Slam on the calendar should be the US Open, which is scheduled to begin on August 31.
Wimbledon was canceled due to the coronavirus, while Roland Garros was moved to the end of September.
