Novak Djokovic opened his appearance at the ATP Finals in Turin with a victory and took the first step towards the goal of ending the season with a trophy.
In the first round of the group part of the competition, he defeated Norwegian debutant Kasper Rud 2:0 (7:6, 6:2).
Since 2015, Djokovic has not won the last tournament, in which the eight best tennis players of the year participate.
The Serbian tennis player had a bad start to the match, lost his serve at the start, reached a break minus 3:3, then had two set points with a lead of 5:4, on his rival's serve.
However, he had to go to a tie-break, which he won 7:4.
In the second, he secured victory without any major problems.
This time he opened the set with a break, made another, and his serve was never threatened.
After the match, Djokovic received a trophy for the record - for the seventh time in his career, he ended the year at the top of the ATP list.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrej Rubljov will play in the second match of the green group tonight at 21 p.m.
