Rafael Nadal played in the Miami Masters final five times, but never lifted the trophy.
Tonight it was done by the tennis player who they believe will be Rafa's successor - Carlos Alkaras.
In the final, Alkaras defeated Kasper Rudo 7:5, 6:4 and became the first Spanish champion of Miami.
"It's too early to describe how I feel. I won the first Masters of my career, I have an amazing team with me. Congratulations to Kasper and his team. He can definitely do great things this year. I also thank my family and team. Thanks to Juan Carlos - come is yesterday, I want to thank him for staying with me in this important moment for my career," said Alkaras, who will be 11th on the ATP list from tomorrow.
And Kasper Rud will be seventh, which is his best ranking in his career.
"Congratulations Carlos. You are already such a good player. If you continue like this we will see you here for many years. You work hard, you are a good guy, this is an achievement that you and your team deserve. Congratulations to my team as well," said Rud during the ceremony.
