Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev qualified for the semifinals of the tournament in Adelaide today after defeating compatriot Karen Khachanov 6:3, 6:3.
The currently seventh tennis player in the world reached victory against the 20th on the ATP list after 78 minutes of play, in their first mutual duel since 2019.
After saving two break points in his first service game, Medvedev broke twice by the end of the first set, while in the second set he did not panic after an early break, but from the score 1:3 tied five games and finally won.
Medvedev will fight Novak Djokovic for a place in the finals of this tournament.
"One of the two has many titles and likes to play in Australia, but you never know what will happen. I will watch their match," said Medvedev.
American Sebastian Korda also secured a place in the semi-finals, who won against Italian Janiko Siner 7:5, 6:1. His next rival will be Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka, who defeated Australian Alexey Popirin 7:6, 6:7, 6:2.
In the women's part of the tournament, Arina Sabalenka from Belarus and Irina Begu from Romania advanced to the semifinals. Sabalenka defeated Czech Marketa Vondrousova 6:3, 7:5, while Begu was better than Russian Veronika Kudermetova 7:5, 6:4.
