Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal said that Novak Djokovic is the best tennis player in history, after winning the 24th Grand Slam title.
This season, Djokovic won three Grand Slam trophies, the Australian Open, Roland Garros and the US Open, and now has the 24th biggest title, which is a record in men's tennis, equaling the total record previously held by Margaret Court.
Nadal, who has been struggling with injuries in recent years, has 22 and the Swiss Roger Federer 20 Grand Slam titles.
"Numbers are numbers and statistics are statistics. In that sense, I think he has better numbers than mine and that's indisputable. That's the truth, and the rest is tastes, inspiration, sensations that one or the other can convey to you, that you like one more than the other. In terms of titles, Djokovic is the best in history and there is nothing to argue about that," said Nadal in an interview published today by AS.
Nadal said that he does not want to use the injuries he had as an excuse.
"I congratulate him on everything he achieves, it does not create any frustration for me. I will not be the one who tries to be what he is not through a personal struggle. I am satisfied with what I have done," added the 37-year-old Spanish tennis player.
