Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov qualified for the quarterfinals of the masters in Shanghai, after a sensational victory over the second player in the world, Spaniard Carlos Alkaras - 5:7, 6:2, 6:4. Dimitrov reached the big turning point after two hours and 10 minutes of play.
What does this surprising epilogue mean for the ATP list?
Alkaras is in second place with 8.445 points, 500 less than the leader Novak Djokovic - 8.945.
Alkaras applied for the tournament in Basel, if he wins he could equalize with Djokovic, but the Serbian tennis player enters the end of the season, which will end with the Final Masters in Turin, as a great favorite to end the year at number 1.
Today, Alkaras made a turnaround in the first set - from 3:5 to 7:5, but could not win the remaining two. Dimitrov dictated the rhythm, in the second set he made two, and in the third one break that broke the match.
The Bulgarian will play in the quarter-finals against the Chilean Nikolas Jari, who earlier today defeated the Argentinian Diego Schwartzman 6:3, 5:7, 6:3.
