Russian tennis player Andrei Rublev will keep the points and prize he won at the Dubai tournament, except for the fine he has to pay, after the ATP today accepted his appeal against his disqualification in the semifinals of that tournament.
On Friday, Rublev was disqualified from the semi-finals of the tournament in Dubai, because at the very end of the match with Kazakhstan's Aleksandr Bublik, he shouted at the linesman because of a decision. Before the disqualification, Bublik was leading 6:7, 7:6, 6:5.
In addition to the disqualification, the fifth tennis player in the world was also fined 36.400 dollars.
According to the rules, when a tennis player is disqualified from a tournament due to unsportsmanlike conduct, he receives neither ATP points nor money, but the ATP ruled that "usual penalties would be disproportionate in this case."
"The appeals process took into account the testimony of players, officials, as well as a review of all available video and audio material," the ATP statement said.
The statement added that Rublev will have to pay $36.400 for violating the code, which was determined by the referee of the match.
The defeated semifinalist at the Dubai tournament receives $157.755 and 200 points for the ATP list.
