After the US Open (2022) and Wimbledon (2023), Carlos Alcaraz reached his third title in his third Grand Slam tournament final - today at Roland Garros, the Spanish tennis player defeated Alexander Zverev 3:2 (6:3, 2:6, 5:7, 6:1, 6:2).
Alkaras led in sets, then Zverev reversed, but a big drop in the game of the German tennis player followed. The Spaniard convincingly won the fourth and fifth sets and finally reached his first Grand Slam trophy on clay.
"First of all, I have to congratulate Sasha for a fantastic start to the year. The level you play at and the work you put in every day is incredible. You played with your heart. You have survived many difficult moments in recent years. This is the end of a journey. I hope you will soon have a chance to win a grand slam," said Alkaras after the match.
He then addressed his team.
"My team put in incredible work. I came back after injury. I didn't feel well. There were a lot of doubts about whether I would come. I'm grateful to have such a team. Everyone in my team is giving their maximum to develop me as a player and a person . We are a big family," said Alkaras.
Zverev did not reach the title in the second final of the Grand Slam tournaments either.
"Congratulations Carlos. Three Grand Slams on three different surfaces - an incredible result. You have achieved a lot at such a young age. You are a fantastic player. I would also like to thank my team for this journey, after that injury in 2022. I hope that one day we will lift this trophy. It was challenging, thanks to the audience, these two weeks were amazing, I love playing here," said Zverev.
