Novak Djokovic, the seven-time winner of Wimbledon, reached the semi-finals of the unofficial world tennis championship today.
Alex de Minaur handed him the quarterfinal duel without a fight.
About three hours before the scheduled start, the Australian informed the organizers that due to an injury sustained in the round of 16 match against Artur Fiss, he will not be able to perform in the quarterfinals.
De Minaur barely made it to the end of that duel, but after it he assured everyone that he would be ready for the match of his career - the first on the Central Court.
"I will find a way to perform," he said.
In the end, that didn't happen, so Djokovic got an unplanned day off, but also skipped another step.
The Serbian tennis player is now waiting for an opponent in the semi-finals, and it will be better than the clash between the American Taylor Fritz and the Italian Lorenzo Musetti.
A potential problem for Djokovic, who said a few days ago that he needs matches to get into a rhythm, could now be the lack of matches before the finals - he played against Holger Rune on Monday, the semi-final match is on Friday!
An unusually long break, in the middle of a Grand Slam tournament.
In the first semi-final, also on Friday, Carlos Alkaras and Danil Medvedev will meet.
