Sensation at the US Open, the first favorite according to the bookmakers, the Spaniard Carlos Alcaras was eliminated in the 2nd round by the Dutchman Borik van de Zandschulp.
"He was incredible. He didn't give me points at all, he didn't make the mistakes I expected. It was like it disturbed me. My level was the same all the time, and that wasn't enough to give myself a chance to win. I made a lot of mistakes, I didn't hit the ball well. When I tried to come back, it was already too late," said Alkaras, Sport klub reports.
The third tennis player in the world notes, however, that he had the biggest fight during the match with himself.
"It was a fight with myself, in my mind during the match. In tennis, you play against someone who wants the same thing as you, to win, and you have to be as calm as possible in order to think better and try to do good things. Today I played against my rivals and I played against myself, in my mind. A lot of emotions that I could not control".
The Spaniard won Roland Garros and Wimbledon this summer, and then lost to Novak Djokovic in the final of the Olympic tournament in Paris.
"The defeat against Novak did not bother me at all before coming here. I felt bad for an hour after the match, and afterwards I was proud because I brought silver for my country. I think the biggest problem was that I didn't prepare well mentally for this tournament, I didn't have time. However, this is all school and I will learn something from this," concluded Alkaras.
