Arina Sabalenka continues to play well on the American tour - after winning the Masters in Cincinnati, the Belarusian tennis player defeated Elise Mertens 2:0 (6:2, 6:4) last night and qualified for the quarterfinals of the US Open.
Sabalenka has lost only one set in the US Open so far.
Last night, the second tennis player in the world made a break at the start, took a 2:0 lead, and then once again took the opponent's serve and easily reached 1:0 in the sets.
The second set was decided in the fifth game, when Sabalenka broke and kept the advantage until the end.
Sabalenka will play in the quarterfinals against Ćinven Ženg, who eliminated Dona Vekić - 2:1 (7:6, 4:6, 6:2).
Last year's champion, Koko Goff, who lost last night to Emma Navarro - 2:1 (6:3, 4:6, 6:3) ended her performance in New York.
Navarro reached a break in the sixth game of the first set, which was enough for her to decide that part of the game in her favor.
Navarro was the first to reach the break in the second set as well - she led 4:3, and then Koko Goff answered, who tied three games, reversed and equalized in sets.
However, that was all from last year's champion. Navaro broke in the third game of the third set, took a 2:1 lead, and then once again took the opponent's serve and advanced to the quarterfinals.
Navarro will play in the quarterfinals against Badosa, who eliminated China's Wang - 2:0 (6:1, 6:2).
