Danil Medvedev is enjoying New York again this year - in the place where he won the only Grand Slam in his career, where he played in two finals, again without much difficulty he placed among the top eight.
The Russian tennis player is in the quarterfinals of the US Open after he "blown away" the Portuguese Nuno Borges in one hour and 48 minutes with "Artur Eša" - 6:0, 6:1, 6:3.
At the favorite Grand Slam, Medvedev thus reached the fifth quarter-final in the last six years.
"I try, I work hard, but sometimes it doesn't work... This is not the case here, and I have such a mentality that I always want to win," said Medvedev after the match.
The only resistance Borges made in this match was in the third set, when he broke at the start. However, Medvedev quickly returned it to reach a new and crucial break at 5:3.
To qualify for the semi-finals, Medvedev will play against the better of the duel Janik Siner - Tomi Pol.
"I will watch that match even though it starts later - Tomi is playing fantastic this year, we met twice, he could beat me... In any case, whoever comes will be a very difficult match," added Medvedev.
And while the quarterfinals of the US Open are somewhat routine for a Russian tennis player, a guy from Great Britain made a career success at this tournament earlier today.
His name is Jack Draper, he is 22 years old, and so far he has reached the second round at the Grand Slams...
Tonight, he "flew away" to the quarterfinals with a victory over Tomas Mahač - the fourth time at this year's US Open without losing a set (6:3, 6:1, 6:2).
The tennis player from London showed a lot of promise throughout his junior career, six years ago he played in the Wimbledon final, but frequent injuries slowed down his ideal progress in the senior competition.
Now he is finally on the right path, he is still young, and for the new best page of his career, he will fight against the better of the Australian duo Alex de Minor - Jordan Thompson.
