Fric wrote the most beautiful page in his career - after three and a half hours he defeated Aleksandar Zverev 7:6, 3:6, 6:4, 7:6 and advanced to the semi-finals of the US Open
"It's really fantastic that after years of trying to reach the semifinals, everything is happening right here in New York," said Fritz after the match.
The first set, which the guy from California won only in a tie-break, showed how even a match everyone expected at "Artur Eš".
The German tennis player was the first to reach the break in this match - at 5:3 in the second set, after which he equalized at 1:1.
The third set brought real excitement - first Fric reached the break, Zverev quickly returned it, so that the next time the American tennis player took away his rival's serve when it was the most beautiful - for 6:4, for 2:1.
As the road to a historic victory began, Fritz ended it - by winning a new tie-break, which he put an end to by forcing his rival to send the decisive ball out.
New York celebrates the boy from California, and for Zverev there will be no celebration at the Grand Slams this time either... His greatest successes remain two finals - from the US Open in 2020 and Roland Garros this year.
The next quarterfinal match is scheduled for two and a half hours after midnight when Grigor Dimitrov and Francis Tiafo will meet, and the winner of that duel will be Taylor Fritz's rival in the fight for the final.
The semi-finals will be completed tomorrow evening after the match Alex de Minor - Jack Draper and the big derby between Janik Siner and Danilo Medvedev.
