The legendary tennis player, Roger Federer, was a guest of the US Open, and upon his arrival in New York, he commented on the doping affair involving Janik Siner.
After an investigation by the competent authorities, it was revealed that the Italian had two positive tests for the banned anabolic steroid clostebol from March, but he was not suspended for that.
Siner was fined and points were taken away from him, but he was allowed to continue competing, which angered the public, as well as some players who consider this move to be double standards.
"This is a rather unpleasant situation. It's a nightmare for every sportsman and his team when they encounter such accusations. This is not what we want to see in our sport, regardless of whether he did something or not. Noise is being created that we don't want," said Federer.
The Swiss believes that Siner should not have played in New York.
"I absolutely understand the frustration of all the players, who are unhappy with the way Siner was treated in a different way than everyone else. Most of us believe that Janik did nothing wrong, but he shouldn't be here until it is 100 percent established what happened there. That is the question to which we have to get an answer. It is the way it is and we have to trust everyone involved in the process," Federer concluded.
