The world's number one female tennis player, Iga Sfjontek, was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the US Open - better than the Polish player was domestic tennis player Jessica Pegula.
Pegula won convincingly 2:0 (6:2, 6:4) and for the first time in her career reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament.
Sfjontek played a bad match, had as many as 41 unforced errors, and made only one break.
The first set ended quickly - Pegula made two breaks, took a 4:0 lead, and then took the lead in sets.
In the second set, the American took the opponent's serve and took the lead 2:1. But then Sfjontek responded, made the only break in the match and equalized - 2:2.
However, in the seventh game, Pegula got another break, which was enough for her to advance to the next round.
Pegula will play against Karolina Muhova in the semi-finals.
