The number one tennis player in the world, Janik Siner, defeated Danilo Medvedev last night (3:1) and for the first time in his career he reached the semi-finals of the US Open.
Siner will play against Draper in the semi-finals, while the other semi-final pair consists of Fritz and Tijafo, so the Italian is the only remaining tennis player who has won a Grand Slam in his career.
"I don't feel like a big favorite. Everyone who reached the semifinals did so fully deservedly. Against every opponent, you have to approach the same, find a solution. That's what I do. Of course, now it's the semifinals, the matches are different. I'm certainly lucky which I already had the opportunity to experience. It will be interesting," said Siner.
The Italian defeated Medvedev in the replay of the Australian Open final.
"Difficult match. We know each other very well. There were many challenging situations. But the fact that I started the first and third sets with a break helped a lot. I am very happy about the victory.
In the semi-finals, he will play against Dzeko Draper.
"We've known each other for a long time. It will be a tough match, he hasn't lost a set yet. He plays well, serves well. And he hits the ball very hard. It will be interesting," said Siner.
